Skiing!!

Since I was a little girl I have loved the snow, and every year have excitedly awaited the arrival of the new snow fall. There is something so magical and exciting about snow and how it changes the landscape. I was literally counting  down the days until the ski areas opened, because it means winter, (finally,) skiing (even though I am new to it) and ice climbing! So you can imagine how excited I was when my husband surprised me with a day trip to go skiing at Mount Baker on Sabbath to celebrate our anniversary early.
We left at 7 a.m. and arrived at the Heather Meadows parking lot a little after 9 a.m. The drive is very pleasant and the rode gets very whindy as you drive up. The parking lot is very large. You will find people camped in campers, r.v.s. and vans. There is a sledding area and when the ice is in, ice climbing.

The Heather Meadows sits at 4300 feet elevation and has 8 chair lifts with routes from easy to experts only. (I only did the bunny hill and chair 2 routes.) You can also rent skis, boards, boots, helmets and poles from the rental shop. Heather Meadows Day lodge has a restaurant upstairs, a pizza and coffee place in the lower level with bathrooms and lockers.
This is a picture of the bunny hill rope tow. Which is were I spent some of my time when my husband I decided to split so he could do some harder routes.
This is the route from chair 2 were we did most of our skiing for the day. It is a pretty nice route and pretty easy for a beginner, hence why it is rated easy. I had to take the mandatory selfie picture at the top of the chair 2 route before we headed down.
We had such a fun time together! It was snowing a little bit and very windy, but not too cold once you  were skiing. The only time I was cold was riding the chair lift up, and like I said above it was because of the wind.
The scenery was spectacular! There wasn't a whole bunch of people and the lines for the chair lift and ski tow were fast. After a few runs and falling a few times I told B that I was super tired and needed/wanted to sit in the lodge for a while to rest and he could ski the harder routes. We agreed to meet back up in an hour. I enjoyed the people, skier, and boarder watching that I was able to do.
After an hour he met me at the lodge and we went back to the slope for one more run down. I was doing okay, but I was so tired I was not able to turn in time and headed straight for the powder, and caught the edge of my ski and this happened....

Boy did I fall and bury myself in the powder, but it made my husband and I both laugh. Once we unburied me we made it to the bottom, I turned in my rental gear and B did one more run. Once B was done with his last run we grabbed our gear and headed home.
I hope that you have a wonderful winter and get to do lots of playing in the snow!
Until next time!
