Squires Lake #33
Saturday after Church my friend came with my daughter (Miss A) and the dog (Cookie) and I on a hike to Squires Lake in Bellingham Washington. It was a really easy trailhead to find and a great hike. To get there take I-5 North and take exit 242, turn right and go a mile and the parking lot is on the left hand side. There was only one car parked in the lot when we arrived which was really surprising considering it was a Saturday afternoon and amazing weather.
The hike starts off with a bit of a climb that isn't too steep and it doesn't last very long, a little over a quarter mile.
Once you are done hiking up the "steep" part you immediately arrive at the lake with a bench to sit on and enjoy the view. There are 2 options on which way around the lake you can go, over the bridge to your left or to the right which has a little bit of a hill. We chose the bridge way. I should state that the trail is very wide once you are done going up the incline, and doesn't have a lot of roots sticking up that you could trip on.
We then found the junction for Beaver pond but didn't go that route. (Plan on adding it next time we go. If you are quite enough they say that you can see the beavers!) As we were coming up the last hill that is very shaded we found this tree and the junction for the South Ridge Trail which we didn't do. (Planning on adding it next though.)
The total hike is 2 miles long and it is by far one of my favorite hikes that we have done! We had such a good time and enjoyed it so much. I hope that you get the chance to go on this hike soon!

The lake is beautiful and you can see lily pads in sections of the lake, hear birds singing and chirping, and see ducks swimming as you make your way around it. There are also benches along the way, and some of them are in the shade or right on the lake. We stopped at some of the benches in the coolest hidden alcoves along the way. We even stopped at one point and gave the dog a swim so she could cool off because there was a small area to take your shoes off and wade in.
After the wading and dog swimming we stopped on one of the bridge crossings because we found 6 frogs. They all jumped away when Miss A decided to sit down and watch them, but we waited for awhile for them to come back, which they didn't do.
