Mount Dickerman #34

Well I will start out saying that this is probably one of my least favorite hikes. I also recommend that if you are just getting into hiking don't do this one right away. The hike is 8.6 miles round trip, but there is 3,723 feet elevation gain in 4.3 miles. That is a lot of switchbacks! The parking lot does have a pit toilet and there is also an information sign that gives you details of the hike. Such as that the trees were planted in 1915 after a major fire came through the area and tells you about being able to see Glacier peak from the top.
The trail starts out pretty flat from the parking lot and there is a register that we put our information on. (Which if there is a register I highly recommend putting your information down incase anything happens.)

After hiking for awhile and looking at trees, a waterfall and a giant boulder. We stopped at this one spot that had devils club and found some water and decided to try my friends new water filter and fill our water bottles. We both brought 2 and had already drank a whole one each and we weren't even half way up the hike.(I recommend bringing 3 bottles or more of water.) The water filter worked great and we were on our way again after taking some pictures and admiring the view and flowers.

After more switchbacks we came to a waterfall. It was so cold and felt so good to put your arms in!

Then it was off to hiking more switchbacks to this rock formation and this view which makes you think you are nearing the top because the landscape starts to open up. But nope you aren't there yet.

We came across some snow patches and a mostly flat part of the trail that was made up of these rocks, then you are back into the trees and hike up through a small stream.

And then it gets really steep again and more switchbacks and some very high "steps" bringing you to this snow patch. We met a lady coming down and we asked how much longer until the top and were told about 20 minuets.

.

I didn't feel good at all and I didn't want to push it so we turned around. I will admit that hiking down took forever, and I was so over the hike that I was getting really frustrated that it was taking so long to get back to the car. This is one hike that I willingly won't do again anytime soon.
