North Trail Cape Lookout State Park #55

After our climbing trip, we came home for the 4th of July, then the following morning loaded the kids and dog and headed down to a 5 day camping trip on the Oregon Coast with my husband's family. We totally did nothing the first couple of days which was really nice. We then decided as a group that we were going to go hiking one day on one of the trails in the park.
We started from the campground as you can see in the picture below and the boys insisted on bringing their bikes.

Cookie was ready to go.
We cut through this short little path instead of going on the road to the trail head.
It was a nice little path to take.
I found this tree root system very interesting.
The kids had to check out the view of the beach from the view point.
See what I mean?

My little hiker....she loves to go on all of them.

Finally reached the trail head. :)
Stay to the right at the "T."
We then crossed a bridge over this stream.
Which if I remember correctly was a restoration project.

The trail is very wide and flat in the beginning.
The trail then becomes narrow and starts to climb.
It also has quite a few roots that stick up along the way.
Had to walk through this tree and it's roots to continue on.
The amount of bracken fern was really pretty to observe.
Mr. H started to push his bike more then he rode at this point. Guess it pays to listen to your parents.
The view just after the bend in the trail to the beach below.
Not too long after the trail becomes almost invisible....okay more like overgrown and could use some trail work.
Mr. H. decided that he had had enough of pushing his bike up hill and ditched it in the bushes,
because there was no way he was going to get the bike up this part of the trail.
I couldn't get a picture of the rocks that you had to walk up, but this wire cage is holding the rocks all together on the side of the trail that you had to walk on.
The shrubs and bushes eventually cleared a little bit so you could get a picture of the ocean again. The clouds and ocean appear to be meeting.
The trail became wider and pretty flat.
Finally made it to the trail intersection. Miss A was tired but
she insisted though on proceeding further with B and I. The rest of the group decided that they wanted to head back to camp and pick up H's bike that he had ditched earlier on the way up.
"Wait for me daddy!"
After going down hill for a while we came upon this suspension bridge. It was so cool!
Then we came upon this log. This was across a ravine that was wide, but all of the trees, ferns and shrubs don't show that in the picture. This is not a part of the trail and only B crossed it!
Rooty trail again.
Another tree we could walk through.
Shortly after walking through the tree roots B proceed ahead because Miss A and I became slow, well more like she really slowed down.
"Can we please stop now mom?" Me: "No let's make it to the top we shouldn't have that much farther to go."
She asked quiet a few times, and we did end up going through a lot of mud a long the way, and eventually we caught up to B as he was coming back down the trail. He turned around again continued on with us
to the trail head and parking lot. Miss A was tired and if I am honest I was also, so we headed back to camp even though we had talked about continuing on.
There are more trails and next year when we go back I plan on doing them.
This was a beautiful hike the views were amazing that we could see along the way and a trail that was very enjoyable. In all I believe that we did about 5 miles total to and from campsite.
Until next time!
